The 27th China International Furniture Fair & 2021 Modern Shanghai Fashion & Home Furnishing Biennale (hereinafter referred to as Pudong Furniture & Home Furnishing Biennale), which is planned for the next decade of China’s furniture industry, will be held from 7 to 11 September at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre and Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center, starting from three levels: design change, lifestyle iteration and new trade ecology.
Recently, the 1+1 Design Matchmaking Roadshow and the Digital Trade Show (DTS), a series of related programmes, have also been launched.
Always cherishing the power of design and concerned about the home furnishing industry, they are concerned that most companies have made great improvements in design and quality, but the problem of design homogeneity still exists, so the design section of this year’s show will sink to the vast majority of SMEs in order to balance the design development of the whole industry.
The much-anticipated ‘1+1 Design Matching’ event this year is an upgrade to the content of the 4th REd Red Design Annual. 20 emerging designers will enter famous furniture enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta and make a 1+1 match, after the match is successful, the designers will upgrade the design of the enterprise’s existing products, while they can design a product that represents their personal concept, and after the exhibition and the enterprise have passed the assessment, both types of products will be produced and presented at the show.
Nine of the designers appeared at the Beijing roadshow and staged a ‘marriage match’, in which the designers presented their past experiences and works to the companies and expressed their personal design ideas, while the companies on the other side presented their company’s situation and needs, and the two sides reached a preliminary cooperation intention in a warm communication.
In addition to the practical cooperation, the designers will gain a deeper understanding of the development status and needs of various types of enterprises in China, and these precious “field research materials” will push the designers to complete design service projects in a more mature manner. This win-win event is also supported by enterprises, which are at different levels of maturity, but are all looking to the power of designers in their quest for market breakthroughs.
Hou Zhengguang continues to be the curatorial advisor to the designers participating in the REd exhibition, with Yang Lu and Lin Yuxian as curators.
In the last two years, the global supply chain and industry chain have been affected by the epidemic, but long before the epidemic began, the Pudong Furniture & Home Show was planning an online sourcing and promotion programme, relying on a double cycle of internal and external activities to inject new vitality into the development of the domestic furniture industry.
Last year, the DTS online exhibition “Digital Trade Show” furniture foreign trade platform was launched, with a dual platform model of “cloud viewing + physical exhibition”, helping domestic enterprises to establish online trade with global buyers, such as Yuan’s Wooden Language and other domestic brands have signed trade cooperation with foreign customers through this. This year, DTS will continue to expand its target markets for Japan, Korea, Indonesia and other RCEP member countries, bringing more market opportunities for exhibitors.
With home furnishing e-commerce sales rising repeatedly in recent years, Furniture China has also paved the way for enterprises to digitalise their home furnishing brands. This will help brands that want to embark on the digital fast track but lack the experience to tilt their domestic sales channels towards e-commerce more conveniently, and exhibitors who pass the selection process now will also be able to enter the above channels for free.
In addition to this, the Pudong Furniture & Home Furnishing Biennale has also set its sights on high-end materials with a new “Golden Axe Award China Home Furnishing Materials Innovation Competition”, which aims to use the influence of the award to encourage innovation in materials development and application in the Chinese home furnishing industry. As an economy with nearly 30 years of exhibition experience and industrial resources, apart from leveraging the city’s economy, insight into future living trends is also essential.
